Le musée est ouvert tous les jours

Around the Chat Noir, Arts and pleasures in Montmartre, 1880-1910

September 13, 2012 to June 2, 2013

The exhibition evokes the literary, artistic and musical atmosphere of the cabaret Chat Noir (Black Cat), founded in 1881 by Rodolphe Salis. More than 300 works are presented in the show, including works by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen, Adolphe Willette, the Nabis and the Symbolists. There is also a reconstruction of the shadow theater with musical accompaniments (Bruant, Yvette Guilbert), as well as a showcase of Montmartre’s spectacular cabaret scene and bohemian lifestyle as represented by the Circus Fernando, the Moulin Rouge and the Bal Tabarin.
