The goals of the American Friends of Musée de Montmartre "AFMM"
- To preserve Montmartre's Cultural Heritage
The project began in 2014 with the restoration and refurbishment of Suzanne Valadon’s Studio, but there are still many other improvements necessary to preserve the artistic and cultural heritage of the «Butte Montmartre». Our next project will be to renovate the oldest building in Montmartre: the Bel Air house. This historic mansion, dating from the 17th century, houses the collection of the Musée de Montmartre. It presents a unique collection of paintings, posters and drawings by artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Modigliani, Kupka, Steinlen, Valadon and Utrillo, which represent the important cultural heritage of Montmartre which must be preserved.

- To Transmit an Appreciation of Montmartre to the Next Generation
The Musée de Montmartre offers a selection of tours and workshops for different age groups to discover the history and art of this famous hill. Visitors are plunged into 19th century Paris: the creative effervescence
of its artists and studios, the atmosphere of its entertainment venue, and the rural history and spiritof this rebellious neighbourhood.
- To Develop a Strong Cultural Program with Exhibitions for an International Audience
In 2018, as part of the Dutch Cultural Year, the Musee Montmartre organized an exhibition of Van Dongen and the artists of Bateau-Lavoir. This exhibition was a great success and 120,000 people discovered this artist. With the next exhibition, the collection Weisman & Michel, End of Century-Belle Epoque (1880-1916), we hope to achieve the same success.
- To Acquire New Works
This year a new acquisition, le Maquis, by Maurice Utrillo will join the collections of the Bel Air house. The zincs of the shadow theatre will also be returned to the Chat Noir room after their restoration.
